There is always an exception to a rule, somehow. Even that “what goes up must come down” rule is rather silly because ‘up’ means away from the earth… we definitely can launch something that will never come back so SOMETHING went up and didn’t come down.

Anyway - the exception to this article would be Jeremy Schoemaker, aka Shoemoney. Sometimes you think “that was brutal” when reading but you do get the message and the spelling doesn’t matter.

Anyway… just wanted to throw that out there :p

Thats very unfortunate. I would suggest whoever wants to start blogging and wants to post download links (legal or not legal) to get their own domain name and get a web hosting plan. These days, web hosting plans are very very cheap.

i think i can feel wat he felt… (altho my prob not as bad as his) coz there’s once my comp kena some DNS trojan… it blocked everything from nuffnang… then my blog could not load properly coz nuffnang is taking very long time to load… eventually my blog was stucked after loading the header… that time i was also quite devastated… n i also tot abt quittin… luckily i managed to solve this prob after 3-4 months…

i agree. it’s the “dare-to-be-unique” thingie that catches my attention anyways.

I mean, I have ONE favorite blogging blog, and that’s john chow’s. any other blog that aims to imitate him I consider a copycat. BUT if a blog that is also about blogging is different in a way that the author presents his ideas uniquely (or he has a side to his personality that’s really catchy), i stick.

As long as the post is sensible, no matter if the person has good English or not, ’tis all good.

I agree wholeheartedly with this post. I as a blogger want to improve in terms of grammar and topics.

And oh just shaddap about the earning from Nuffnang/Advertlets part. Because blogging is more than just earning money, what say you, Cedric?

I believe blogging is part of an experience. By blogging, I am technically an author/writer. So if I write things that people have no interest in reading, why blog? Why write? Why take the time to type out a post?

So, in my humble opinion, I think that asking for your readers’ opinion on how you could improve your blogging skills (or whatever you call it) is definitely a good thing. Think about this: you ask people to comment, they comment. Just eat the meat and throw the bones. Whatever you think can be applied for improvements, do it; whatever not, just forget about it.

Why care about others’ think? The truth is, as a blogger, I care because I want my stuff to be read. That is a good-enough reason to care.

Above all, I blog for myself. And I am not one who slouches sluggishly and seek no improvement; I want betterment - that brings meaning to life.

I have been studying the whole miserable day on that stewpid Introduction to Psychology (no, I’m not doing Psychology, just that its one subject I have to take - gosh!) and I decided to blog browse, and I ended up here. So, yo. Another blog, I see.

Anyway, I think this is an interest post. From what I observed, many bloggers - especially Chinese-educated ones (no, I’m not a racist) - tend to blog with a lot of grammatical errors.

There are, of course, some English-educated people who blog with a lot of abbreviations and “sms-language”, as what we call it.

In my opinion, here’s the problem: not everybody takes blogging seriously. The concept of ‘online diary’ is imprinted in their minds. Unless they see it from our perspective - that blogging is about expressing our views, changing perspectives, and earning - their manner of blogging won’t change.

And perhaps one more thing you could add is reading. I believe that reading helps - a lot. Be it fiction, fantasy, non-fiction, or even the papers, just read, for God’s sake! It will improve your English a lot.

I used to really hate paid posts, but I’ve signed up recently.

It’s really up to the blogger. The problem is most bloggers write paid posts about items that don’t interest their readers and that seem out of place in their blogs, promoting stuffs that even they won’t be interested at. Readers detect the fakeness of the blogger’s enthusiasm and lose respect for the blogger.

another great post here.
For me, I have no argument for bloggers doing their paid posting.. yeah, even before I followed the same path. Especially for bloggers with paid domain name. It’s their blog and they can do whatever they want with it. As most postie, the in between posting is important. I read all of them.
Just don’t forget, only PPP is the most strict company out there when comes to posting their PP. The rest is just a simple link inserted in the post which can sometimes produce the best story to read. I go to others’ blog not to judge them, but enough to read their interesting posts and never know we end up as friends. that is more important, for me at least. Sorry, long comment. Just my 2 cents.. ok, maybe 50 cents already

The problem with PPP is that most of the posts are totally irrelevant and bring down the reputation of your blog.

You need to find a happy medium. I personally think John Chow has way too many paid posts and they bring down the quality of the site. If you even it out and post a lot more of your original content I don’t think its too bad.

AlvinC: Choice of words doesn’t mean you need to use big words. What I’m trying to say is that you can avoid using offensive terms in your blog. Limited vocabulary will be overcame if you have the determination to learn to look up in your dictionaries. Good luck!

i m really agree with what you are telling about. even me myself also do not like to read such entry that kinda don’t have its own motif at all. i had experience it before where i think even me my self feeling so boring in reading my first two or three entry that me post during my experience starting to writing in my blog before. hehe. A month ago, after doing some planning, i can see an increase of reader that come to my blog. And because of this i m really agree with you that we have to plan before writing. most of the time, before i compose & publish my entry, i will 1st compose it offline, meaning I write my post on a piece of paper. and i usually write it during the time when i’m in the train.

I don’t actually put much attention to the choice of words. I will just type whatever that come into my mind. & i seldom use bombastic words (coz i have limited vocabulary… XP)

for those posts with photos, I spent quite some time choosing & editing those photos as i wanted them to be presentable. And i limit the amount of photos in my post. If i wasn’t able to post all the photos in one post, then i’ll separate them into 2 posts.

That’s how I plan every single entry of my post. XD

i would like to add my 2cent worth opinion

the comment link, it would be nicer if its an pop-up or navigate to another page that have the original post

because there are many times i wanted to comment on something, but i forgotten what i want to write and i got nothing to refer,
i would have navigate back to the original post, and if my connection is bad, too bad liao lor!

Daniel: I used to have cbox and it’s a full version so it does auto refresh and what makes me so pissed is when my readers comment there and i didn’t catch them unless i read the history. Duh…

you know, when i removed my cbox, most people started asking for the cbox to be back.

Sometimes they prefer the cbox.. well at least there are readers!

For me it doesn’t matter whether i got a lot of reader or a lot of comments.. in fact, most of my post don’t have much comment…
My blog a bit boring, lagging all the sidebar stuff around, and i don’t know to play around with colour or size of font to make my entry as interesting as possible… In fact, most of my entry is hard to let ppl understand.. Anyhow, from ur post here, i could get some idea that most of ppl like to have a lot of comments. Therefore, i will give some comments to the entry that i read in their post..
